Secure bike storage - survey

You told us you&#39;d like more secure bicycle storage on Broadwater Farm. We want your thoughts on a trial project to install two secure bike hangars on the estate.<img src="https://res.cloudinary.com/commonplace-digital-limited/image/upload/v1725533943/projects/5f607bb5d37fa030fbf3cb67/b0uconyczk9wgpfnxbqo.png" class="fr-fic fr-dib">Bike hangars provide safe, sheltered cycle parking on streets and parking spaces. A bike hangar stores six bikes and uses half a standard car parking space.We want to trial two bike hangars on the estate and have identified five possible locations:<ol id="isPasted" start="1" type="1"><li>Within the Croydon courtyard, behind the main block entrance</li><li>Within the Debden courtyard, near the second block entrance</li><li>Gloucester Road, outside Lympne main entrance in parking bay</li><li>Gloucester Road, outside Kenley on road</li><li>Adams Road, on pavement near Manston car park entrance</li></ol>A secure cycle space in the bike hangar will cost the subsidised price of &pound;22.00 per year.&nbsp;Subsidised bike hangar spaces are only available to Broadwater Farm residents.<a href="https://www.cyclehoop.rentals/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Cyclehoop rentals</a> manages all bike hangars throughout Haringey and take all bike hangar applications. You can only apply for a space in a bike hangar after it has been installed. Arts on the Farm

Over the last few months, we&#39;ve been creating art, exploring heritage and sharing stories and memories with the Broadwater Farm community.<img src="https://res.cloudinary.com/commonplace-digital-limited/image/upload/v1715328907/projects/5f607bb5d37fa030fbf3cb67/fmnpk974ubueykrrhnkt.jpg" class="fr-fic fr-dib" data-uw-rm-alt-original="">We&#39;ve hosted workshops and creative sessions, bringing local artists and residents together to create beautiful artworks, meet new people, and engage with the estate&#39;s rich heritage.&nbsp;This pilot programme aimed to bring Broadwater Farm residents and the local community together to connect, build relationships and learn more about how we can work together on future arts and culture projects and activities on the estate.

How the pilot programme worked

We teamed up with local artists to provide workshops on everything from clay sculpture creation, how nature inspires art and creativity and mosaic design to the history of Tottenham and Broadwater Farm through photography, architecture, music, Bruce Castle Museum&#39;s archives and more.We held workshops on&hellip;

This pilot programme was funded by Haringey Council and delivered by The South-North CIC in collaboration with Active Change Haringey.

Arts on the Farm exhibition

Thank you to everyone who joined us at our Arts at the Farm exhibition in March 2024.The exhibition was the finale of the pilot programme of creative workshops on the estate and Willow Primary School, bringing everyone together to celebrate and showcase their fantastic work.

The event included a performance by artist Shepherd Manyika and children from the Willow Primary School, a fantastic display of&nbsp;original artworks by residents - paintings by Henry Murdock and prints by Simon Gill - alongside&nbsp;craft activities from the Trove Market.&nbsp;Residents and visitors to the estate can still enjoy portraits by Elliesse Kaaouachi and artwork from the Willow school project at the Community Canvas space on the green between Debden and Hawkinge blocks.&nbsp;The show also included the work of Broadwater Farm resident and local artist Inga Bystram, who creates illustrations painted in watercolours, depicting the people and places of the estate over the years. You view large-scale paintings by artist Inga across the estate until early summer.&nbsp;

Thank you to everyone who shared their views in our recent Section 105 consultation. We received 126 responses &ndash; 31 using the online platform and 95 using the hard copy survey response booklet.<img src="https://res.cloudinary.com/commonplace-digital-limited/image/upload/v1713954474/projects/5f607bb5d37fa030fbf3cb67/fl0eivt7lit60hqzkdlk.jpg" class="fr-fic fr-dib" data-uw-rm-alt-original="" alt="Broadwater Farm from Lordship Rec">The top three responses were from Rochford (22), Lymphe (19) and Debden Blocks (13), with 75 social rented tenants, 14 private tenants, seven leaseholders and 30 responses from other or local residents.We held various consultation events throughout October and November 2023, including:&nbsp;<ul><li>Face-to-face drop-in sessions</li><li>Pop-ups in communal lobbies&nbsp;</li><li>Attending regular resident surgeries</li><li>A community day</li><li>Local door-knocking&nbsp;</li><li>Online drop-ins</li><li>Community litter-picking day</li></ul>Thanks again to everyone who came along and got involved in these sessions. It has really helped us get a better idea of what is important to you.During the consultation events it was clear that you want your homes to be warmer and safer and your estate to have a more consistent and connected community feel with improved outdoor spaces and better storage.&nbsp;

Improving the spaces beneath the blocks

This project aims to transform the ground floor spaces beneath the blocks to make them feel safer, more secure, easier to navigate and more pleasant to use.We want to work together to create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

You may have seen various pop-ups and night walks on the estate, asking for feedback and ideas on making Broadwater Farm feel safer together.&nbsp;You told us the ground floor spaces are:<ul type="disc"><li>Hidden away with not many people around.</li><li>Well-lit and safe enough but there&rsquo;s a smell from the river.</li><li>Need to be decorated so they feel more welcoming.</li><li>Should have CCTV and maybe some plants.</li></ul>Thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts. Your input has helped us understand how you currently use these spaces and how you think we can improve them.

The below image is separated into five different sections with some suggestions on ways to improve the spaces under the blocks.

Welcome home&nbsp; This section shares ideas for ways to make the spaces underneath the blocks feel more welcoming as you walk through them to your block front door.Artwork and murals This section shares ideas for artwork and murals that could be added to the spaces underneath the blocks to help brighten the space and give the different blocks and areas an individual feel.Safety and lighting This section shares ideas to make the spaces underneath the blocks safer and brighter. For example by adding CCTV and help call points, adding lighting to the ceiling or wall fixtures and signage.Furniture This section shares ideas to make the spaces underneath the blocks feel a bit different. Features such as cycle servicing points, bug hotels to encourage biodiversity, seating and play areas.Bins and storage This section shares ideas to help make bin and storage areas in the spaces underneath the blocks clean and clear. Suggestions for this include screened bin areas, clearly signed recycling and zoned off bulky waste collection points.Choose from the ideas below for each improvement area. You have up to three choices for each.
